Our policies, in plain English
The short version of what's in your Rental or Rent-to-Own Agreement — rent to own, deposits, maintenance, fees and what happens if you're not approved. If anything here conflicts with your signed agreement, the agreement controls.
Rent to own
- At pickup you pay the down payment (about $2,000 on a Model 3; it varies by car) plus your first weekly payment. There's no separate security deposit.
- You then pay weekly for 12 months (52 payments). After the final payment we transfer the title into your name.
- The down payment is not refundable.
- You're responsible for all maintenance and repairs, and you keep full-coverage insurance with a rideshare endorsement for the whole term.
- Pay on time. A weekly payment more than 24 hours late ends your right to own the car at the end of the term, and the car may be disabled until you're caught up. Reinstating your right to own costs $5,000.
- The car must stay in California. Travel to Mexico is never allowed.
Getting your rental deposit back
- Your deposit equals the deductible on your auto insurance policy (for example, $500 if your deductible is $500) and is paid at pickup.
- When you return the car we inspect it with you at drop-off and text you the result.
- The deposit comes back to your card less anything still owed: unpaid rent, unpaid charging, tolls and tickets during your rental, damage beyond normal wear, the $50 low-charge fee if returned under 50%, or the $500 cleaning fee for smoking.
- We itemize every deduction in writing. Questions about a deduction? Text us and a person reviews it.
- The deposit isn't used for rent while you're renting — rent is billed weekly.
What "maintenance on us" covers (weekly rentals)
| We cover | You cover |
|---|---|
| Scheduled service, software updates, and mechanical or electrical repairs from normal use | Wear items you use up: tires, brake pads, wiper blades |
| A replacement car when one is available if yours has to come off the road for a covered repair | Damage from accidents, curbs, potholes or misuse (that's what your insurance is for) |
| Charging, tolls, tickets and car washes |
Something feels off with the car? Text us before booking any repair yourself — we schedule and pay for covered work.
The $9.99 verification fee
- The application has a one-time $9.99 fee that pays for verifying your license, driving record and insurance.
- It's credited toward your first weekly payment at pickup, for rentals and rent to own.
- It isn't refunded if your application is declined or you change your mind.
If you're not approved
- We tell you by text, usually within 24–48 hours of receiving your license photos.
- We tell you the reason when it's something you can fix — most often insurance that doesn't yet cover a rental or rideshare. Fix it and we re-check without a new fee.
- Your documents are kept only as long as needed and handled as described in our privacy policy.
Weekly billing and late payments
- Rent is charged to your card on file on the same weekday each week.
- If a payment fails we text you a secure payment link. Payment more than 24 hours late on a weekly rental adds a $19/day late fee and the car may be disabled until it's paid. For rent to own, see the rent-to-own rules above.
- Cars stay in California. Travel to Mexico is never allowed.
