How to get rideshare-ready insurance in 24 hours

Insurance is the step where most drivers get stuck. Here's exactly what we need, what to ask for, and who sells it — so you can be verified the same week you apply.

What we need before pickup

  • Full coverage on your own auto policy: liability plus comprehensive and collision.
  • Coverage that extends to a rental / non-owned car — ask your agent to confirm it in writing.
  • A rideshare (TNC) endorsement if you'll drive Uber, Lyft or delivery. Personal policies usually exclude app driving without it.
  • Sophic Rentals listed as "Additional Interest" (also called "Interested Party"). It's free and doesn't change your coverage — it just lets your insurer tell us if the policy lapses.

Your 24-hour checklist

  1. Hour 0 — apply on this site so we can hold a car while you sort insurance.
  2. Hour 1 — get 2–3 quotes. Tell each carrier: "I'm renting (or rent-to-owning) a Tesla Model 3 and driving Uber/Lyft. I need full coverage that applies to a rented car, with a rideshare endorsement."
  3. Hour 2 — buy the policy (most carriers can bind same day online or by phone).
  4. Hour 3 — add Sophic as Additional Interest: Sophic Rentals LLC, 393 N Cypress St, Orange, CA 92866, [email protected].
  5. Hour 4 — send us your declarations page (screenshot is fine). We call your carrier to confirm, usually same or next business day.

Who sells rideshare endorsements in California

Many major carriers sell a rideshare add-on to a personal policy in California, including State Farm, Farmers, Progressive, Clearcover and USAA (USAA is for military families). GEICO is also a carrier our renters have used. Availability and price change, so get quotes from at least two. Independent insurance agents can shop several carriers in one call.

What drivers typically seeApprox. cost
Rideshare endorsement added to a personal policyabout $10–$30 / month on top of your premium
Full coverage + rideshare, California averageroughly $250–$275 / month (≈ $60 / week)

Ranges from public 2026 insurance-comparison data; your quote depends on your record, age and ZIP. Sophic isn't an insurance agent and doesn't receive anything from any carrier.

Common snags (and fixes)

  • "We don't cover rentals." Ask specifically about coverage for a non-owned or long-term rented vehicle; if it's a no, quote another carrier.
  • Liability-only today? Call your current carrier and ask to add comprehensive and collision plus the rideshare endorsement — often a same-day change.
  • No car on your policy right now? Tell the carrier the car you'll be driving; we can give you the VIN once you're matched.
  • Out-of-state license? You can still apply; some carriers will ask for a California license within a set period.
